Cottage Sketch
Two tireless Friends of the Cottage ....... (click on picture to enlarge)

Jane Beecroft - Past Pres. of CHP, initiator and primary driver of the entire project;

Larry Priestman - Assistant Project Mgr., Electrician, teacher & problem solver extrordinaire. Need horsehair to replicate the lathing mortar? What colour? And it's there within hours.
Friends -

More than 500 individuals and organizations have contributed in various ways to the restoration, furnishing and publicity of this historic building, its "classroom" addition and the park in which it's situated. Contributions have come in many forms from people across Ontario and from as far away as British Columbia, the common factor being that they recognize the rarity of the building and want to help. We'd be delighted to add your name to the list!

The following lists will give you a sense of the numbers and diversity of those who have supported this project, many of whom continue to do so. There are bound to be some regrettable omissions - please let us know of any you find. This page provides a little additional insight into the nature of some of their conributions.

In addition to those named below, others have supported the project crucially, but indirectly, by supporting the Community History Project (owners, restorers and operators of The Tollkeeper's Cottage - for example), and still others have chosen to remain anonymous.

top of listVolunteers in Restoration:

Without the work of the following, the restoration project would never even have "gotten off the ground". We're at a loss to express the accolades these folks deserve.

Klaus and Marjut Dunker, Architects
Dorothy Duncan, Heritage Consultant

The following people may have contributed only a few hours of labour or were part of the labour force over a period of years, serving monthly, weekly or even daily in the physical restoration of The Cottage. Volunteers have ranged in age from teenagers to those in their eighties. Some were highly skilled while others were willing to learn or simply serve as "donkey labour".

We owe an immense debt of gratitude to them all:

Donors of Funds
:

Some donors gave a $20 donation once, while others have donated hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars. Some saved coins and donated their hoardings. One donor gave $361 in pennies picked off the street over a period of years. The regional heritage community and several residents' associations made contributions - some, more than once. The largest donation of $75,000 came from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Needless to say, we'd never have come this far without your support (and that of all the others who contributed in different ways)...

Out of their modest resources, these groups have each donated $200.00 or more. To express appreciation for that support, the Community History Project has offered each group an opportunity to hold a meeting at no charge in the Tollkeeper' s Cottage within the first ·six months it is open.
